Moscow Economic School (MES) was registered on February 1, 1993 as a non-state educational institution.
On December 30, 2010, the school was granted the state status of a gymnasium.
On June 23, 2014 the Odintsovo branch of Moscow Economic School was established.
Moscow Economic School is a private educational organization offering its services to students starting from preschool through grade 12.
Moscow Economic School is among schools united by the European Council for International Schools (ECIS) and the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE).

MES is a bilingual school where English and Russian are the languages of instruction. Students can test their knowledge by participating in various international tests. From the second grade, a second foreign language (German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese or French) is studied. MES students have an excellent opportunity to take exams for obtaining an international certificate: these are the Cambridge University YLM (Young Learners Movers), FCE (First Certificate in English) / PET (Preliminary English Test) exams, as well as exams in French, Spanish and German. - DELF, DELE and Fit-2.
MES has been awarded the status of the Cambridge ESOL Exam Preparation Centre.
Since 1996, the school has been working according to the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs for elementary, middle, and high school levels of education (grades 1-12). Graduates of the Diploma program consistently demonstrate high results, receiving the highest possible scores. MES alumni go on to study at universities around the world and include: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University (USA), London School of Economics, University of Warwick, University of Birmingham, Queen Mary, University of London (UK), International University of Geneva, European University (Switzerland), The University of Hong Kong and many others. Graduates of the 11th grade of Moscow Economic School enter the most prestigious universities in Russia.

MES students annually take part and become prize-winners of various Olympiads and contests such as: the All-Russian Olympiad for Schoolchildren, the International Competition "Russian Bear Cub - Linguistics for All", the International Competition of Children's Drawing "Wave of Fantasy", the All-Russian Competition for School Media and the All-Russian Competition "The Best School Publication ", the city competition of research and briefs" The biosphere and Us", city-wide reading competition, and many more.

Since 2001, the school has been an experimental site of the Russian Academy of Education. In 2013, Moscow Economic School was re-accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS).

Moscow Economic School employs 202 teachers. One of whom has a Ph.D. of highest degree, fourteen teachers have a Ph.D. degree, and 60% of teachers have higher and first qualification categories. Almost 60% of teachers have received state and departmental awards, medals, and certificates of honor from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Moscow Department of Education, and the Russian Academy of Education. MES teachers are professional specialists not only in Russian, but also in international education. Some of whom have gone on to become trainers of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), which has bestowed them the right to instruct other teachers in how to work in the IB programmes. Also, MES has teachers who have become international examiners - they are entrusted with checking the diploma and examination papers of students of International Baccalaureate schools around the world. An important role in improving the teaching skills of MES teachers is fulfilled by the Teaching Career Center (TCC), where classes are held weekly.

The main law of school life is the MES Code of Conduct.

School life is organized by the Student Council and the Parent-Teachers Association. They connect the student body to the Board with the goal of enhancing the learning experiences, to voice their peers’ opinions to the administration and to propose the necessary changes.
The school operates a student television and radio company MES-TV, publishes "The Vertical of development" magazine and "Book of the Year" almanac.
In MES, there is a variety of after-school clubs (modern dance studio, art studio, etc.). The brightest students organize into leagues or honor societies by field of study. A significant part of students, teachers and parents actively participate in the programs of the MES Charity Foundation. It patronizes rehabilitation centers for disabled children, orphanages, large families, war and labor veterans, and supports families of repressed citizens of the Presnensky district. During the charity marathons "Give joy to children!" support is provided for gifted children from different cities of Russia.
The school day starts at 8:00 and ends at 17:00. Students are provided with four meals a day.

The Moscow Giraffes Children's and Youth Sports School and the Kamerton Children's Music School operate on the basis of the school. The work of studios clubs lasts up to 20:00.
